The Pistons brought in another player ahead of training camp

With training camp right around the corner, the Detroit Pistons are continuing to add options to the squad in search of a candidate for the No. 15 roster spot, and there’s a new player to vie for that position— Quincy Olivari.

On Monday, Olivari inked a contract with the Pistons after spending the 2024-25 campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers on a two-way deal. During that season, Olivari did feature in two games in LA, but he primarily shined during a 35-game stretch with the South Bay Lakers, which is the G-League affiliate of its Los Angeles counterpart.

Michael Scotto (@MikeAScotto) on X Michael Scotto (@MikeAScotto) on X The Detroit Pistons and Quincy Olivari have agreed to a deal, Senior VP of @CSETalent Darrell Comer told @hoopshype. Olivari was on a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers last season.

As a member of the South Bay Lakers, the 6-3 guard out of Xavier scored 17.5 points, snagged 5 rebounds and dished out 4.5 assists per game last year. Olivari was able to impact the game in multiple facets, and he showed promise despite a limited role with the Lakers.

While in college, Olivari was a stellar shooter from long range, and the new Pistons signee set the Xavier single-season three-point record by sinking 106 shots from long range in a 34 game span. During his senior season, Olivari landed on the Big East Honorable Mentions list for his standout season, one that included a 43-point outburst against DePaul.

At the moment, the Pistons are searching for a player to fill the role of backup point guard after the departure of Dennis Schroder over the offseason. Olivari could represent a low-cost, relatively young option (24 years old) who could develop into a steady, trusted operator of the offense when star point guard Cade Cunningham needs a rest. Olivari’s three-point range could complement Detroit’s offense and space the floor if placed in the right lineup.

Recently, the Pistons signed four players to Exhibit 10 deals in an effort to provide ample competition in Detroit during training camp and the pre-season. From a wide perspective, it appears likely that Olivari will slot into a similar two-way role with the Pistons, one that includes significant minutes for the Motor City Cruise with an opportunity to contribute for Detroit should the opportunity arise due to injuries or otherwise.

Look for the Pistons and President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon to continue bringing in young, low-risk, high-reward players into the fold leading up to the team’s pre-season opener against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday, Oct. 6.

The Pistons will kick off the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 22 against the Chicago Bulls.
