Ajay Mitchell has had the opposite of a sophomore slump as he has totally broken out in his second season, almost doubling his averages across the board from last year.Following a really nice rookie season, where Ajay played his way out of a 2-way contract, his numbers have exploded.

  • Ajay Mitchell 2024-2025 per game averages: 6.5 points, 1.8 assists, 1.4 rebounds, 0.7 steals, and 0.1 blocks.
  • Ajay Mitchell 2025-2026 per game averages: 15.2 points, 3.7 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 0.3 blocks.

Obviously, Ajay's upgraded numbers in some part have been due to the Thunder needing someone to step up in the absence of Jalen Williams, who was recovering from offseason surgery on his right wrist. But with JDub returning, many people, including myself, wondered whether Ajay's box score numbers might dip or take a major hit. It is obviously a very small sample size of just one game, but last night against the Portland Trail Blazers, the two Thunder players seemed to coexist easily without stepping on each other's toes too much.Ajay looked every bit the player we have come to love seeing early this season, with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists off the bench for OKC.JDub, who self-admittedly is still finding his footing back from injury, also had a solid night stuffing the stat sheet with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks in the Thunder's 123-115 win.The question still remains about how the rise of Ajay will blend with the return of Dub, but so far, through one full game, things look to be just fine in Oklahoma City.
