As of this moment, we still don't know when Jared McCain will make his Thunder debut, but I would have to assume it will come sooner rather than later, as OKC, particularly in the ball-handling and shot-creation departments, has been hit with all types of bad injury luck.
Jalen Williams has been out indefinitely with a hamstring injury, Ajay Mitchell is out with an abdominal strain, and it was recently announced that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will also be out with an abdominal strain, keeping him sidelined at least until after the NBA's All-Star break ends.
Whenever Jared McCain is finally available, it will be a sight for sore eyes for the Thunder. McCain won't get the benefit of playing off of or alongside his new primary ball-handling teammates until they return from their injuries, but for now, this could end up being the best thing for him.
In McCain's last six games, it looked like he found a bit of a groove, scoring double digits on half of those nights. Once he does make his debut, McCain will not be expected by any means to fill Shai's shoes and play Superman with the Thunder facing some big-time opponents, along with having the injury decks stacked against them.
These circumstances may not be ideal, but the Thunder and McCain could both really benefit from this situation, as McCain will have a chance to get his feet wet in a new environment, with plenty of opportunities and limited expectations, over a few games leading into the upcoming NBA All-Star break.
