The Thunder win or lose tomorrow in the last regular season game of the year are locked in position as the number one seed in the Western Conference, but what is not set just yet is who they will face in round one or potentially in round two.As of right now, the Nuggets are in the three spot and would be on the opposite side of the bracket from OKC, but with Denver headed to San Antonio for their season finales, that could easily change.
Nikola Jokić is set to play, but essentially the rest of Denver's roster is set to rest, and Jokić probably won't play more than the 15 to 20 minutes he needs to qualify for postseason awards.
This game is important because with a Nuggets' win that puts them, as I said, on the opposite side of the playoff bracket from OKC, but if the Spurs win, that would push Denver into the four vs. five matchup and potentially set us up for another heavyweight series between the Nuggets and Thunder.
San Antonio actually has the most to gain out of this game, where they could push Denver off their side of the bracket and avoid both the Nuggets and the Thunder until the Western Conference Finals, and give themselves a much easier path while making their two biggest threats beat each other up for the right to play the Spurs for a trip to the last round.
Could the Thunder still go all the way and win another ring, even with a difficult path that has both the Nuggets and Spurs in front of them?
Absolutely, and I don't think OKC will be running from any smoke, but if it were up to me I am hoping Denver pulls off the win to give the Thunder the slightly easier path rather than serving one up on a silver platter to the Spurs on their first ever playoff run and forcing them to face off against Jokić and company in the second round and OKC playing the winner of that knock out drag out series for the right to go the NBA Finals.
