Jalen Williams and his surgically repaired wrist have been a topic of discussion all season, and even back to the summer. JDub has continued to progress and show flashes of the All-NBA player that we saw last season, prior to getting hurt.
Today at Thunder practice, I asked Dub about his injury and where he feels like he has improved the most since returning this season. He gave an incredibly in-depth answer about his process with this injury that looks like it will linger and factor into things for him for a while as he continues to shake off the rust and recover while trying to help his team win games.
“I mean it sucks. It’s a very annoying process. Nobody is gonna be more frustrated than me, like when shots are short when they’re not. It’s just one of those things I’ve got to learn throughout the game. It’s not like we’re on a bad team where I can come jack 40 shots and figure it out that way. I’m just doing it in the game flow, not trying to force anything, and being patient with it. Again, this injury is not something where it’s like, you get it, have two hand surgeries, and then it’s alright, you’re good to go. It’s something over the course of a year, a year and a half, and having summers to really figure it out, where it’ll be really back to normal. But it’s just one of those things, like you just figure it out in the game, and I’ll be able to be effective in other ways and not focus on it. That’s my biggest things is just there’s just so many other things to effect the game than score and play defense. I've kinda stopped caring about it when it comes, it comes and continue to go throughout my process with it.”
