Timberwolves to the East?

With NBA expansion coming soon, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been frequently brought up as the team that would move from the Western to the Eastern Conference to make space for the new teams, assumedly franchises in Las Vegas and Seattle.

Should the Timberwolves be forced to move and if so, how would that affect the team longterm?
