Florida State and Miami are getting the primetime treatment for their annual rivalry game. The Seminoles and Hurricanes will kick off at 7 p.m. on Oct. 4 in Tallahassee and the game will be broadcast nationally on ABC.

As it stands now, the rivalry tilt will also be a Top 10 matchup, with Miami up to No. 2 in the latest AP Top 25 and FSU checking in at No. 8. Both teams are currently undefeated. FSU travels to Virginia this Friday to open ACC play, while Miami has an Off Week following its victory over Florida.

The annual bout is, somewhat unexpectedly, the early game of the year in the ACC. The matchup pits the conference's two highest-ranked teams against each other. It's no surprise ABC selected this game given the history, pageantry and current relevance of both programs.

The implications for the game are heavy for each team. While neither has yet played an ACC game, the winner of this matchup will be an odds-on favorite to reach the ACC Championship Game in Charlotte in December.

Both of last year's championship game participants - Clemson and SMU - advanced to the College Football Playoff. The winner of the game is guaranteed a spot in the 12-team playoff, but as last year showed, even the loser will be in good position to earn an at-large bid.

If the road to the playoffs runs through Charlotte, then the road to Charlotte may well run through Tallahassee next weekend.

Florida State at Virginia kicks off at 7 p.m. on ESPN this Friday, Sept. 26.
