The win over Houston was more than just a pleasant surprise it was a schematic and effort-based response. Kansas defended with purpose, rotated on time, and showed far better offensive patience against pressure. If the Jayhawks can consistently defend ball screens at that level, limit empty possessions, and generate multiple paint touches per trip, they absolutely have the profile of a team that can be relevant deep into March.

As for Darryn Peterson, this was one of his more complete outings. Thirty minutes with sustained engagement on both ends is notable. He wasn’t just hunting shots  he made quicker reads, played within the flow of the offense, and competed defensively for longer stretches. That’s real progress.

However, labeling him the “best player in the country” still feels premature. The top players at that level consistently impact winning in multiple phases: defensive versatility, late-game decision-making, command of tempo, and presence in closing moments. This is where the
