K-State fans sure have developed a lot of swagger over the years. But before you start acting like football royalty, let's take a little trip down memory lane.
Before Bill Snyder arrived in 1989, K-State was in the middle of a 0–26–1 stretch. The Wildcats had gone two full seasons without a win. They weren't exactly building a dynasty; they were trying to figure out how to win a football game.
Now, to be fair, Bill Snyder deserves a statue, a parade, and probably free meals for life for what he did in Manhattan. He pulled off one of the greatest turnarounds in college football history.
But let's be honest: Bill Snyder built that football reputation. K-State didn't inherit it.
So enjoy the 17-game streak, Wildcats. Hang the banners, polish the trophies, and tell the story one more time. Meanwhile, Kansas has a basketball tradition that speaks for itself.
Saturday is your chance to keep the football bragging rights. But don't confuse a great run of football with a superior athletic tradition.
ROCK CHALK, JAYHAWK!
