It was another ugly win for the LSU Tigers on Saturday, but this time it was against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, which had people worried.
The Tigers' defense was elite yet again, only allowing a touchdown once the game was already over in the fourth quarter. It looks as though it will need to carry LSU this season, because the offense has failed to find a rhythm.
Each side of the ball had some players with solid outings, though. These were the top performers from Saturday’s win, using the metrics from Pro Football Focus’ grading system:
Reliford was someone who was highlighted before the game as a potential breakout star. Hype was high for him coming out of fall camp, but he didn’t make much noise last weekend.
The defensive end was disruptive in pretty much every way possible against the Bulldogs, however.
In just 16 pass rush snaps, he generated three pressures. He hit the Louisiana Tech quarterback twice and caused another hurry. He also had three tackles with a stop in run defense.
More performances like that, and he should see his snap count continue to rise.
The only way that Delane might stop appearing on these lists is if opposing quarterbacks stop targeting him. He was targeted four times in coverage this time and still gave up just one catch.
That is now two catches on 12 targets this season with an interception and three passes broken up.
Delane had NFL evaluations heading into the year, but he is looking like a first-round candidate through two games. He is probably the best cornerback the Tigers have had since Derek Stingley Jr.
Brown flashed his game-breaking speed against the Clemson Tigers, but was mostly ineffective. That was not the case this time as he was the team’s offensive MVP.
The former Kentucky Wildcats star had eight catches for 94 yards with a rush for 15 more yards. He’ll likely be the fastest wide receiver on any field he steps onto this season and LSU must use that to their advantage.
Breaux was a three-star commit last season out of Ruston, which is where the Bulldogs are located, so this was likely a big game for him.
He showed out with one of the most efficient outings of his young career. In just 10 pass rush snaps, he had two pressures in which he hurried the quarterback. The highlight of his day, though, was run defense, where he picked up three stops.
