When reports broke that Alabama women's basketball head coach Kristy Curry was the primary target for Northwestern's coaching search, I was definitely confused. Curry has led the Crimson Tide to the NCAA Tournament in each of the past four seasons, while the Wildcats have failed to reach double-digit wins in a season since Veronica Burton graduated.
However, I could at least understand some of the rationale behind the potential pairing. The 'Cats had previous success under Joe McKeown, and with athletic director Mark Jackson at the helm, Northwestern has shown it is willing to invest in being competitive in the Big Ten (see: Chip Kelly hire).
Imagine my surprise when I found out that, just one day after Alabama lost to Louisville by one point in the Round of 32, Kristy Curry would be leaving the SEC's Crimson Tide for the American's South Florida.
