The bowl game that Northwestern won this season, the GameAbove Sports Bowl, has been cancelled. A Detroit-based bowl game has existed for the last 29 years.

Northwestern lost the 2003 Motor City Bowl to Bowling Green, 28-24, before winning the 2025 GameAbove Sports Bowl over Central Michigan, 34-7. Both games were played at Ford Field, the home of the Detroit Lions.

While it's unfortunate to see another bowl game fold, this does mean that Northwestern will forever be the reigning champions of the GameAbove Sports Bowl. That is, until Detroit decides to bring the game back under a different sponsor's name.
