Former Ohio State running back coach Tony Alfred takes to X to post a cryptic and ridiculous message following the David Gabriel-Georges decision
Ohio State unfortunately missed out on one of the top talents available in the year's high school recruiting cycle. David Gabriel-Georges is a five-star+ running back recruit who has unlimited potential.
Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, because of that unlimited potential, he commanded the highest dollar amount any high school kid has ever seen.
Gabriel-Georges committed to Tennessee on Wednesday for what is reportedly a massive payday. Gabriel-Georges signed a three-year, $2 million per year contract with the Volunteers, locking him in for three years with a front-loaded deal.
No college freshman is making $2 million per year. Numbers like that are insane and were out of the price range that Ohio State was willing to pay. Fair game all around.
Now, that didn't stop former Ohio State running back coach turned Michigan Wolverine running back coach Tony Alford from taking to X and spouting off a take. His exact quote on the situation was, "But I thought… ah, never mind!!"
Now, he never mentions Ohio State at all, and it could plausibly have nothing to do with the decision. That's giving him the benefit of the doubt.
This was a direct shot at Ohio State, and I guess what they can do from a recruiting perspective.
Alford basically left Columbus in the middle of the night, abandoning the Buckeyes and leaving them out to dry, while aiming at their arch-rival. It is absolutely bad blood between the two parties, and nothing is going to change that.
What is even crazier is that the decision to run your mouth on this topic while Bo Jackson and the Buckeyes rushed for 117 yards on 22 carries in last year's Buckeye win over Michigan.
If you are a massive Buckeye fan, which I can only assume to be true, the comment section under this post is a trip and well worth the time.
The last reason why this is such a crazy thing is that the Buckeyes, in my opinion, actually won in this situation. They are not the program that goes out and pays heavily for players. That just simply is not them, and it will never be in this day and age.
It's all a very crazy and petty situation that is being created by a grown man. The Buckeyes inside the building have their blinders on, and this is just water off the windshield. A bizarre situation out of Ann Arbor, again.
