Former Oklahoma wide receiver Drake Stoops, son of legendary head coach Bob Stoops, has signed with the Dallas Renegades of the United Football League it was announced Tuesday evening.
Drake spent the 2024 season as a practice squad player for the Los Angeles Rams and was on their preseason roster before being cut prior to the start of the 2025 season. He remained a free agent throughout the 2025 campaign.
He was drafted in July 2024 by the Renegades, who at the time were coached by his father Bob, which gave the Dallas, then Arlington, Texas, franchise his assignment rights. But the younger Stoops was still on the reserve roster of the Rams during the 2025 UFL season.
Drake will look to make the roster of the Renegades who return their starting quarterback Luis Perez, the "Spring King", under new head coach Rick Neuheisel. The Renegades wide receiver room includes Miles Boykin (former Ravens 3rd round pick), Denzel Mims (former Jets 2nd round pick), former Philadelphia Eagle Greg Ward, and others with power four conference experience.
Over his six year career at Oklahoma, Stoops totaled 164 receptions for 1,876 yards and 17 touchdowns. His senior season saw him flourish with 84 receptions for 962 yards and 10 touchdowns with Dillon Gabriel at quarterback.
