Tennessee baseball head coach Josh Elander spoke with the media this week in preparation for the upcoming 2026 season, where he announced his plans for the opening weekend rotation.
While the names aren't as eye-popping as they had been the past few years, the three arms announced hold lots of promise, including the opening-day starter, right-handed pitcher Teghan Kuhns.
Kuhns, a true sophomore, tossed 36.2 innings in his freshman season with the Vols. While the ERA isn't the most impressive, as it stood at 5.40, Kuhn's numbers are inflated from his final two starts of the season against Arkansas and Vanderbilt, where he allowed a combined eight earned runs.
Kuhns had an exciting offseason, though in the Cape Cod League, where he tossed 13.1 innings with a 1.35 ERA and 20 strikeouts. Those are the numbers to get excited for.
Featuring an impressive fastball and curveball, Kuhns needs to find comfort within his command. If he can do that, the sky might be the limit. He enters the season ranked No. 43 in the 2026 MLB Draft rankings.
