The Huskies offense was never able to get going, and a roughing the passer penalty in the second half helped lead to an Ohio State touchdown as Washington fell to 3-1 on the season.

The University of Washington football team fell to 3-1 on Saturday afternoon as they dropped a 24-6 contest against Ohio State at Husky Stadium.

The Buckeyes, the No. 1 team in the nation, moved to 4-0. They are now 6-1 against Washington all-time, with Washington's lone win coming in 1994.

This was the first meeting ever between the two schools as Big 10 rivals, since Washington joined the conference in 2024. The loss snapped Washington's 22-game home winning streak.

Offense fails to find its footing

Washington's offense, which was averaging 58 ppg coming into the contest, couldn't muster much. They hit a field goal in the second quarter, and another one in the third quarter, but had a hard time sustaining drives and weren't able to do anything in the red zone.

Quarterback Demond Williams Jr. was an efficient 18-for-22, but lacked the big play, as he threw for just 173 yards and no scores.

Washington ran the ball for just 61 net yards, with Jonah Coleman registering 70 himself.

The Huskies ran an unsuccessful fake field goal in the second quarter which cost them the ability to score a touchdown or kick a field goal.

Moreover, the Huskies were 1-for-11 on third down and 1-for-3 on fourth. It's hard to win when you go 2-for-14 in those situations.

    Controversial call stands out

The Huskies defense held strong all day, forcing a fumble on special teams and limiting Ohio State to just 4.4 yards per rush, but they eventually cracked in the third quarter. Trailing 7-3, the Huskies were called for a roughing the passer penalty that turned a 3rd-and-19 into a first down - and an eventual touchdown.

Former Washington quarterback, and current Seattle Sports 710 radio host Brock Huard didn't agree with the call:

And that’s one of the worst roughing the passer calls I’ve seen in all of CFB in ‘25

This crew in SEA has gotta be better

    Should’ve been 3rd-19

Instead an absolute gift 1st down. Be better

Shortly after, Heisman Trophy candidate Jeremiah Smith caught this touchdown to make it 14-3. Had Washington been able to keep it at 7-3, or even 10-3, it may have been a whole new ballgame.

    Up next

At 3-1, Washington will go on the road next Saturday against unbeaten Maryland. The Terrapins are 4-0 and just beat Wisconsin 27-10 in their most recent showing.
