The former Husky struggled for the second consecutive week as the Bengals were routed 28-3 by the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football.

Former University of Washington quarterback Jake Browning struggled for the second consecutive week as the Cincinnati Bengals were thrashed by the Denver Broncos, 28-3, on Monday Night Football.

This came after they were beaten 48-10 by the Minnesota Vikings a week earlier. They are now 2-2. Browning led a comeback win in Week 2 in relief of the injured Joe Burrow, but it's looked rough since.

The Bengals struggled mightily to move the ball, as they ran for only 53 yards, and Browning passed for just 125. Though he didn't turn the ball over, he took three sacks and had a quarterback rating of 27.8.

After the game, Browning lamented his team's inability to move the ball up the field: "For me, my focus is my role in that, which is, dropping back, making sure I'm making good decisions and continuing to move the ball forward. There's a lot that goes into it and I'm focused on my role in the solution , finding ways to be more explosive, put up more points, sustain more drives, be better on third down..."

Browning is currently carrying a 64.3 percent completion percentage. He's thrown for 506 yards and has three touchdowns vs. five picks.

Burrow is expected to be out most of the season, but it's unclear if Browning will retain the job all season. Veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston are both serving as backups with the New York Giants and could potentially be available on the trade market.

Less likely, but still possible, is Mac Jones with the San Francisco 49ers.

Browning is not the only former Washington signal caller in the NFL, as Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. Veteran Kirk Cousins is currently backing up Penix, and could be an option as well.

A prolific passer for the Huskies, Browning played in 53 games in college. He tossed 94 touchdowns in total, including 43 in 2016, which led the Pac-12. He threw for more than 12,000 yards in those four seasons, hitting the 3,000-mark twice. He was named the 2016 Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year and finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting in 2018.

Washington played in the Heart of Dallas Bowl, the Peach Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl and the Rose Bowl in his time, winning just the Heart of Dallas Bowl.

    What's next?

Life doesn't get any easier for Browning, who will take on the Detroit Lions next Sunday. As for U-Dub? They'll take on Maryland on Saturday.
