The San Francisco 49ers received encouraging news Tuesday when star linebacker Fred Warner officially had his 21-day practice window opened, marking a key step in his return from injury.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed the update during his press conference in Santa Clara, signaling cautious optimism for the defensive leader’s availability later in the postseason.

Shanahan was quick to temper expectations, however, noting that Warner’s workload will be limited this week.

With the 49ers preparing for a short turnaround ahead of their divisional playoff matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, the team is expected to keep practices light across the board.

While Warner’s presence on the field is a positive sign, he is not expected to suit up against Seattle.

Even if he’s able to participate in a controlled capacity, the 49ers appear focused on prioritizing his long-term health rather than rushing him back.
