The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will need a new backup quarterback for 2025.
Starting QB Baker Mayfield isn’t going anywhere— at least not in 2026– but QB2 Teddy Bridgewater is, having signed a deal to return to the Detroit Lions.
“Teddy Two Gloves” was with Detroit, oddly enough, twice before.
He spent the 2023 season backing up Jared Goff, then retired and became the head coach at Miami Northwestern High School, which is his alma mater.
He stayed retired for most of the 2024 season, then, the day after Christmas, came back to the Lions.
Bridgewater then signed with the Bucs in August 2025, resigning from Miami Northwestern. He played in four games for the Bucs, all in relief of Mayfield.
