Can the Chargers Defense Keep Up the Effort?

Jeremiah Smith should be the main goal
It is tough to admit it, but the Chargers are likely out of playoff contention just six weeks into the NFL season. This is a statement that would have sounded crazy heading into week one. There aren’t many positives for the rest of the season, but one potential light at the end of the tunnel could be college superstar Jeremiah Smith. The league hasn’t seen an offensive prospect like Smith in quite some time. With the Chargers currently slated for the number one pick in the draft, the goal at this point should be to secure the potential superstar for Justin Herbert.

Can Justin Herbert recover?
Usually when the Chargers play poorly, fans can count on Justin Herbert to help lead the team to a chance of victory. However, thus far, Herbert has been closer to the problem than the solution. The struggles for the Chargers are not all on him, but Herbert needs to snap out of this uncharacteristic funk and remind fans why he was touted as one of the top quarterback in the entire league. Herbert needs to focus more on what he is seeing on the field instead of where he thinks his receivers should be. Mike McDaniel may be used to having his quarterbacks anticipate throws, but with the lack of receivers on this team, that appears impossible to do.

Justin Herbert is facing danger
Tell me if you have heard this story before: the Chargers’ franchise quarterback Justin Herbert will be forced to play behind a subpar offensive line. With both of his star tackles Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater out on Sunday, Herbert will likely be forced to play behind an offensive line featuring four rookies and Cole Strange. To make things harder, Strange may be the most disastrous of the group. The Chargers are hoping that they can get their offense on track. But they should be crossing their fingers that Justin Herbert can leave the arena Sunday in one piece.
