I've been trying to do one of these "strengths & weaknesses" posts for every upcoming Los Angeles Chargers game as a way to preview what could actually happen when the teams actually get on the field, but finding a strength for this Tennessee Titans team feels like it is going to be my most difficult challenge yet.
Let's get into it...
I'm going to keep harping on this because I think it's a big deal over the course of the season and when it gets into the playoffs. This is the Jim Harbaugh way that we've been dreaming about since he was hired as the team's head coach.
The 2025 Los Angeles Chargers rank 2nd in the league in average time of possession and 2nd in the league in average plays per drive. That's a team that is going to be able control games out of the gate and keep their defense fresh along the way. That's a team that rarely, if ever, goes three-and-out...meaning they're at least affecting the field position battle when they're out there.
And this has been done with an offensive line that could hardly be described as healthy in the first half of the season.
I promise I tried to find a strength for the Titans. This team is actually bad at everything, not to mention they'll be without their best players. Instead, we'll highlight two of their weaknesses.
The 2025 Tennessee Titans rank 31st in the least in average time of possession and 25th in the league in average plays per drive. That's a team that sees a lot of three-and-out drives. That's a team that fired its head coach before hitting the halfway point of his second season because there's almost no hope at all.
I'm not going to pretend that playing down to inferior competition is a thing that is specific to this year's iteration of the Chargers. I was shocked when they handily beat up the Minnesota Vikings last week because the Chargers always seem to be playing a close game against whomever they're booked against.
I feel supremely confident that the Chargers are going to win the game tomorrow. But I also felt supremely confident when they were taking on the Dolphins. And, while they did end up getting the win, I did not feel supremely confident when the Dolphins took the lead with 46 seconds left in the game.
I was, and remain, a big fan of Cam Ward's game. However, he is not ready to be an NFL QB.
Amongst the 34 qualifying QBs, the only QB with a lower rating this season is Jake Browning.
Even if the Titans had aspirations of winning this game with a different QB, they don't have a lot of good options. Will Levis is on IR after getting season-ending shoulder surgery. That leaves Brandon Allen as the only other option, and the Titans have no hope of making a playoff run this year anyway.
The Titans will be trying to win, by definition, but they're not going to do it at the expense of Cam Ward getting valuable on-field reps that could benefit them in the future.
