On Monday, the Indianapolis Colts worked out former UConn and New York Jets edge defender Eric Watts.
The Colts placed rotational defensive end Micheal Clemons (toe) on the Injured Reserve list last week, forcing him to miss at least three more games. The Colts also suffered a hamstring injury to starter Arden Key in Sunday's win that will keep him out "some time," according to head coach Shane Steichen.
Watts (6'5", 277, 26 years old) was an undrafted rookie out of UConn in the 2024 NFL Draft who signed with the Jets.
He was active for 14 games as a rookie, totaling 13 tackles. He was on New York's practice squad in 2025, appearing in four games (one start) and making 10 tackles. In total, he's played 334 defensive snaps. Watts has also played 164 special teams snaps in his two seasons.
He was waived by the Jets with an injury settlement this summer during training camp.
The Colts currently have edge defenders Laiatu Latu, Key, Jaylahn Tuimoloau, Caden Curry, and George Gumbs Jr. on the active roster, with Mitchell Melton on the practice squad, and Clemons on Injured Reserve.
