This morning, a Ravens fan that goes by @RavenNationLIVE on X floated a hypothetical trade offer from Baltimore to Washington for DT Daron Payne:

Here are the issues I have with this proposal:

A new hole: Immediately removes a high quality starter from a defensive front that Peters has worked aggressively to improve for this upcoming season.

The ROI: Pick#80 would certainly give Peters better ammo in this upcoming draft, but the Defensive Tackle class of 2026 really drops off outside the top 50. So you're most likely not getting a comparable replacement for Payne at Pick 71 or 80, which (again) weakens the 2026 defensive front. While this return would obviously move up in value, it still doesn't add additional picks for 2026. So you're also creating another hole with the same number of picks to address them.

They don't need more cap space: Yes, Payne's current contract is not ideal. But Washington can afford to keep the current group in tact and get a compensatory pick in 2027 if Payne signs elsewhere and they don't sign a replacement of significant value to replace him. If they do, it's most likely a better, younger option and they know what they're getting. Unlike an unproven late Day 2 or Day 3 pick from a weak DT group this year.
