The past and the future?

We saw a piece of that recently in a one-on-one sitdown between Flagg and the former Mavericks centerpiece and franchise icon Nowitzki.

Nowitzki, now a part of Prime Video's NBA coverage as a studio analyst, sat down with the rookie phenom to discuss how he's grown throughout the first half of his debut season ... while also reminiscing on "the good ol days" the Hall of Famer spent in Dallas.

Like Nowitzki, Flagg has officially been thrust into a premier role on the Mavs in his first year. Dirk wasn't the top overall pick and the organization had yet to build a winning reputation, but he dealt with the low expectations of a European forward and whether he would ever had what it took to lead a championship roster.

Amid the scrutiny that Dallas has been under prior to, and during Flagg's arrival, the pressure is comparable for the former Duke Blue Devil. Time will tell if he, too, can bring the Mavericks into title contention.

Flagg, at just 19 years old, has already began proving that he's a two-way threat, something Nowitzki - or even Doncic during his reign in Dallas - never quite showed.

But ...

One move in Cooper's offensive evolution that has caught Dirk's eye is a familiar one for Mavs fans: Nowitzki's infamous one-legged fadeaway jumper.

"You've been trying a little one-legger, I see?" Nowitzki laughed in Prime's interview snippet.

"Hey," Flagg said in response, "Gotta learn from the best."

I agree. And you, as a Mavs fan, deserve the best. So come and get Fish's autographed Dirk Mavs jersey ... just for joining MavsRoundtable!
