The historic Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears rivalry had seemingly become nothing more than a one sided beatdown for the last decade plus. From Brett Favre going 23-13 against them, to Aaron Rodgers going 24-5 against them, the Packers had the bears number for years. When Jordan Love became the starter for Green Bay in the 2023 season, the Packers swept the division series 2-0 that year, and it appeared that the dominance would continue for the Packers. In the 2024 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears would have the 1st overall pick, with the consensus being that they would select USC QB Caleb Williams. Williams was sought after for his ability to scramble and create plays along with his arm talent. The Bears themselves would struggle to keep up with the heavily competitive NFC north and finish last in the division at 5-12, but there was a strong showing of Williams’ abilities and a glimmer of hope for Bears’ fans that they had finally found their guy. Both QBs felt they had something to prove heading into the next season, with Jordan Love having his worst playoff performance of his career against the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, and Caleb Williams starting fresh once more with the arrival of new head coach Ben Johnson, the Lions OC prior. things seemed bright for both teams as the Packers would trade for Cowboys star EDGE Micah Parsons and the drafting of Texas WR Matthew Golden in the 1st round of the 2025 NFL draft. The Bears also had a draft they’d be happy with, drafting Mizzou WR Luther Burden III and Michigan TE Colston Loveland. The First matchup in the 2025 season between the Packers and Bears would take place on week 14 at Lambeau Field, where a Keisean Nixon interception would seal the win for the Packers 28-21 in a close thriller. The second matchup on week 16 at Soldier Field would see the Packers take a 16-6 lead with 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Jordan Love suffered a concussion early in the game leaving QB Malik Willis to step in for the remainder of the regular season. A dropped onside kick recovery by Packers WR Romeo Doubs would result in an opportunity for the Bears to comeback into the game and win in OT 22-16 off of a DJ Moore touchdown. This win would ultimately help the Bears clinch their first NFC North title with an 11-6 record on the year. The Packers would lose out for the rest of the regular season with the losses of Jordan Love, Micah Parsons and Josh Jacobs. With the Bears clinching the 2nd seed in the NFC, and the Packers clinching the 7th seed, it was destiny for these historic rivals to face off for just the third time in history in the postseason. The playoff series was split 1-1, with the most recent matchup being the 2010 NFC Championship game, where the Packers would win 21-14 and go on to win Super Bowl 45 against the Steelers. Jordan Love was back in the playoffs for the third straight season as a starter, and Caleb Williams was making his playoff debut in Soldier Field. The game started off very much in favor of Green Bay, as the Packers would take a 21-3 lead in the first half off of 3 passing touchdowns by Jordan Love early, but just when it seemed the Packers had the bears where they wanted them, something shifted. Just before the half, K Brandon McManus would miss a FG to try and make the game 24-3, which would continue to happen in a meltdown of a second half for the Packers. Sloppy coaching and dropped passes tainted what was a legendary performance by Jordan Love, who had 323 passing yards and 4 touchdowns on the night. Caleb Williams and the Bears would make the unbelievable comeback to win the game 31-27 and advance to the divisional round of the playoffs, while Green Bay was stunned and many wondered what the future would look like for the coaching staff and for their kicking unit. Now, the Packers Bears rivalry is hotter than it’s been in decades, as fans of both teams are more invested and driven to win than ever, with the major improvement from Caleb Williams to elevate the Bears, and Packers fans waiting for a healthy season to show what they can do at full strength. Jordan Love and Caleb Williams will be a great matchup for years to come as this rivalry takes a new turn and ramps up to a new level.
