The Green Bay Packers are 5-2-1 after losing to the previously 4-4 Carolina Panthers in Week 9 of the 2025 NFL season.
It was a loss that way always possible. In fact, looking back at it, perhaps it was probably.
Matt LaFleur is a good head coach. In fact, by winning percentage, he's one of the best in the NFL. Through seven seasons in Green Bay, and even after this tough loss, he's 72-35-1, which is good for a winning percentage of .671%.
You'll take that all day every day, but Green Bay isn't called "Title Town" for no reason.
The expectations for this team is a Super Bowl win, and that's even with superstar tight end Tucker Kraft now out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL.
"He's doing as good as you could ever be doing considering the circumstances. Tuck's a guy that's not gonna flinch. That's why we love him. He's a hell of a player, hell of a teammate," LaFleur said on Monday. "I'm bummed for him. I'm bummed for us. But that's part of it."
That is indeed part of "it" in the NFL, sadly, but the other part of it for good teams is figuring out how to battle through the adversity.
That's something that this team hasn't been able to do in 2025, and you can make the case that fighting through adversity has always been a problem in the LaFLeur era. Especially this season, though, the Packers have played undisciplined and unfocused football, and that showed up in the 16-13 loss to the Panthers.
Now, it's up to LaFleur to pull his team back together and pull them back from the brink. In the grand scheme of things, they're still the top team in the NFC North and we've seen them play like Super Bowl contenders at times this season. Moving on from Kraft is going to be hard, but this team still has offensive firepower in players like Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, Josh Jacobs and, of course, Jordan Love.
There's also plenty of power on the defensive side of the ball. Star pass-rusher Micah Parsons had a terrible game against the Panthers, with just one pressure and no sacks, but he's the type of player who won't get shut-out often. Also, it's well worth noting that Xavier McKinney got back on the interception train by picking off Bryce Young.
