Bill Cowher has a unique understanding of what it means to be a local guy coaching the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Hall of Famer, who grew up in Crafton, Pa., coached the Steelers from 1992-2006 and had a 149-90-1 record in 15 seasons and won a Super Bowl.

Not surprisingly, Cowher has an opinion on the Steelers hiring Pittsburgh native Mike McCarthy as their head coach on Saturday. Cowher talked the move favorably on Sunday in his role as a member of the NFL Today cast on CBS.

"He knows the tradition," Cowher said. "He knows what the expectation is. He knows what that fan base is all about. He's a Yinzer. I think it's a very good hire for the Pittsburgh Steelers."
