A fresh name is surfacing in the New York Giants’ head-coaching search, and it comes from one of the NFL’s most dominant defenses.
Houston Texans defensive coordinator Matt Burke is expected to draw interest from the Giants once interviews begin following the season, according to ESPN’s Jordan Ranaan.
Burke has played a key role in Houston’s rise to contender status.
The 11–5 Texans boast the league’s top-ranked defense, leading the NFL in points, yards, and first downs allowed while remaining in the hunt for a third straight AFC South crown.
Since DeMeco Ryans took over as head coach in 2023, Burke’s unit has become the backbone of the team’s success.
The 49-year-old brings decades of experience, having coached since 1998 and worked at the NFL level since 2004.
He previously served as defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins and shares familiarity with Giants general manager Joe Schoen from their time together in Miami, a connection that could factor into New York’s decision-making.
