In terms of results, this was close to a perfect night for Celtic. Marcelo Saracchi had given Martin O'Neill's side an early lead. But once again, they allowed the game to drift them by. Livingston equalised in the second half, and it had looked like the points were set to be shared.
As we have seen time and again though, even when O'Neill's side struggle, they do figure out ways to win. This time around, it was a 91st-minute winner from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who was making his debut after signing as a free agent just a few days ago, which sealed the three points for Celtic.
It was very much a dream debut for Oxlade-Chamberlain. The decision to sign has come under the microscope, as he had been without a club since the summer, having seen his contract terminated in August of last year. Naturally, many were unsure whether he would even be in a condition to deliver.
While Oxlade-Chamberlain might be nowhere near his best, he has shown that he is still capable of determining games of football. That is what Celtic will want from him until the end of the season.
Of course, Oxlade-Chamberlain's winner was met with a ton of excitement from the fans. One simply declared: "Lifetime contract."
Another wrote: "We needed a moment of quality. There ye are, it took a winner from a serial winner."
Well, Oxlade-Chamberlain has only been given a deal until the end of the season, with the option for a further year. In a way, it is a low-risk move for the club. But if he can deliver the goods for them, they would surely look to keep him beyond that point.
At the end of the day, one has to remember that Oxlade-Chamberlain is still just 32 years old. He spent 12 seasons playing for two of the biggest clubs in the world, Arsenal and Liverpool. There is an undeniable quality there, even if he is coming off a bad spell in Turkey.
As for the Rangers, this was not a night to remember. Not only did they drop a couple of points, but it was in a situation that would raise questions regarding this side's title race credentials.
Motherwell had gone down a man while the Rangers were leading 1-0. That did not stop Stephen Welsh, on loan from Celtic, from cropping up with an equaliser.
When we look back on this night in the future, could this feel like the point that the title race turned on its head?
