Celtic's chances of having Roberto Martinez as their next manager have been boosted by the news regarding Jose Mourinho.

Celtic's decision to replace Wilfried Nancy with Martin O'Neill has been proven to be the right one as the Northern Irishman has quickly turned things around for the Hoops and got them back to winning ways. He has not lost in the eight games since his return, winning six and drawing twice. It is also worth mentioning that the Scottish champions had a player sent off in each of those two draws and were in winning positions at the time.

Of course, O'Neill is 73 years of age and is not the long-term solution for Celtic, despite his impressive results. It is very likely that he will depart at the end of the season, when his interim run is scheduled to come to an end.

Replacing O'Neill is not easy, as Celtic found out with Nancy, who lost six of his eight games in charge before being sacked. Next time around, the Hoops need to get the appointment right.

Celtic should go for a more experienced manager in the summer. Not everybody is capable of dealing with the pressure that comes with life at Parkhead, where the expectation is to win pretty much every domestic game you take part in and as many as possible in Europe.

Ange Postecoglou is someone most Celtic fans would like to see back in the Parkhead hot seat. He remains without a club, having been shown the exit door by Nottingham Forest earlier this season, after just 39 days in charge.

Another manager Celtic have been linked with often in recent weeks is Roberto Martinez. He is currently the Portugal national team boss. But the Hoops' chances of appointing him in the summer have now been boosted significantly.

According to ESPN, sources in Portugal expect Benfica coach Jose Mourinho to be offered the national team job when Martinez's contract expires after the World Cup. If the Portuguese icon does move into the international game, expect Ruben Amorim to return to management at Estadio da Luz.

So, it looks like there could be a game of managerial dominoes in Portugal this summer. And it could make Martinez available to Celtic.

Would Martinez be the right man for the Celtic job though? The Spaniard exceeded expectations by winning the FA Cup at Wigan Athletic, but that same team was relegated as well. Then, he had a great debut season at Everton but struggled after that. And most people believe he should have gotten an international trophy out of Belgium's golden generation that had the likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and plenty of other special talents.

Now, the manager of Portugal, he will be looking to make his mark at the World Cup. But unless they end up winning the tournament, it looks like the Portuguese national team is already preparing to move on from Martinez.
