Celtic Legend Chris Sutton has named this exciting manager as his choice for the managerial role at Parkhead.

Celtic have definitely got back some of their long lost confidence since the appointment of Martin O'Neill as the Bhoys' interim manager after Wilfried Nancy failed in the Parkhead hot seat as he lost six out of the eight games he was in charge of the team.

O'Neill has since lead the squad brilliantly as Celtic are unbeaten in nine games while winning seven of them and drawing twice as they sit six points behind league leaders Hearts with a game in hand.

Despite leading the club brilliantly it is unlikely that the management would look to keep the 73-year-old at the helm for the next season.

Big names like Ange Postecoglou and Roberto Martinez are being linked with a move to Glasgow before the start of the 2026/27 season, but Chris Sutton seems to have other plans as he has named Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou as his choice for the permanent role at Parkhead.

The 46-year-old was appointed as Motherwell's manager in June 2025 and the Premiership club has improved a lot under his leadership as they sit fourth in the league and are playing with style. Sutton was full of praise as he wrote in his column (via Daily Record): “I’m now convinced Jens Berthel Askou would be a great fit for Celtic.

“You want his Motherwell team and your can’t help but be impressed. They are arguably the best side to watch in the country.

“He’s managed to build a team that is solid defensively, superbly maintains possession and creates chances – and all on a fraction of the money spent at other clubs.

“It’s been a remarkable job. I’ve never seen a Scottish team do what Motherwell has done this season – and that’s dominate against Celtic and Rangers.

“Usually tams set up to try to stop the Glasgow clubs playing. Instead it’s been the other way around this year.

“I’ve also been impressed with the way he communicates in the media. He just ticks so many boxes for me.

“It’s hard to know what Dermot Desmond will be thinking as he’s shown in the past he’s capable of making bold, big name appointments, like Brendan Rodgers and O’Neill first time around.

“There’s been a lot of talk around Martinez, and that’s been there for a number of years now.

“But I just think there is a guy on Celtic’s doorstep who is showing a lot of positive attributes to be a success at the club.

“It would be fascinating to see how he would do with more resources.”

Askou and his Motherwell side beat the Hoops 2-0 during their last encounter at Fir Park as Ibrahim Said and Elliot Watt were on target for the Steelmen, a performance which gathered appreciation from a lot of Celtic fans alongside Sutton.

Few people in the world understand Scottish football more than Sutton does and when an expert like him praises your abilities as a manager and recommends you for the demanding managerial position at Celtic Park, it's definitely a big deal for a manager like Aksou.

Now it is to be seen whether the club take Sutton's advice and appoint the Danish manager or go ahead with a more experienced manager for the upcoming season, which would look a more sensible option if the likes of Postecoglou or Martinez agree to take charge of the Bhoys next season. Let's be honest, one cannot overlook the failure that was the appointment of Nancy, and that would hurt the chances of someone like Aksou getting the job over a proven name, and understandably so.
