New manager Liam Rosenior faces immediate challenges as Chelsea eyes a massive January spending spree and player exodus.

Just days into 2026, Chelsea has played three matches, all away: one draw, one defeat, and one victory. To this, we add the appointment of English manager Liam Rosenior and a winter transfer window full of rumors.

The English manager arrives from Racing Club de Strasbourg following the sudden departure of Enzo Maresca on Jan. 1 due to a negative streak, despite winning the championship in the new FIFA Club World Cup format.

Rosenior received an inconsistent team that ended 2025 with a home draw against Bournemouth (2-2).

And the year did not start in the best way; in these 10 days, the 'Blues' have already played three matches (all away), beginning on Jan. 4 against Manchester City, where they managed to rescue a point following a late-minute goal by Argentina's Enzo Fernandez.

Three days later, they faced Fulham, losing the match after an 81st-minute goal by Harry Wilson and the 22nd-minute ejection of Marc Cucurella.

And on Saturday, they faced Charlton as part of the FA Cup third round. In this match, they managed to lift spirits as it was the debut of Liam Rosenior as the new manager of the 'Blues.' The match ended with a 1-5 score in favor of Chelsea.

The English club's board is preparing a historical investment to reinforce the squad for the second half of the season. Several rumors indicate they are looking to sign Spanish midfielder Fermin Lopez, for whom they would offer FC Barcelona an amount close to 150 million euros. Other rumors involve Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen and Argentine Julian Alvarez, with a move also rumored at around 150 million euros.

Other names surrounding the Chelsea market are Portuguese Rafael Leao, Vinicius Junior, and Morgan Rogers of Aston Villa.

To maintain a balance, the board seeks the departure of several elements in this winter market. This starts with the confirmed transfer of Leo Castledine to Middlesbrough. Other names include experienced players such as Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi, who have been placed on the transfer list in search of a sale or loan.

Additionally, youngster Andrey Santos returns to the London club to define his future.

This ambitious project, led by Liam Rosenior and the BlueCo consortium, seeks to form a new project based on young talent with a promising future to lift Chelsea and return the club to the top positions of football in general.

Next Wednesday, Jan. 14, the team will finally have its first home match facing Arsenal in the EFL Cup semifinals, and on Saturday, Jan. 17, its first home Premier League match against Brentford.
