A former Chelsea midfielder's transfer to a rival club promises a financial boost for Stamford Bridge.

There is Some Good News for the Blues

Given the fairly quiet nature of the first 12 days, you would be forgiven for thinking we are in the middle of a winter transfer window.

There seems to have been more movement with managers than players so far this month, with Chelsea, as you may expect, at the centre of all of that.

Nevertheless, there is an anticipation that the window will begin to heat up over the next few days, as we reach the most intense part of the season schedule wise.

Although, as it stands, there appears to be no immediate incomings nor outgoings at Stamford Bridge, there is a pending external transfer that will be of interest to the club.

Conor Gallagher Heads to North London

Indeed, it appears as if former Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is set to join fellow London side Tottenham Hotspur, bringing his 18 month stint at Spanish side Atletico Madrid to an end quicker than people may have expected.

When the 25-year old moved to the Spanish capital 18 months ago, highly reputable journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that the club have an "undisclosed sell on" for the academy graduate.

Although it may be frustrating not to know the exact amount of money Chelsea will be getting from this pending transfer, it is still good to know that the club will be bringing in some sort of money. It felt like a sensible - if tough to take for an academy player - at the time, and even more so now as a result of this deal.

During his time as a senior player, Gallagher made 95 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 10 goals in the process. His best run of form came when partnering Moises Caicedo in the second half of the 23/24 season.

Interestingly, that is when the club then sold the player. Many clubs wait too long to sell a player, when his value has been tanked. It is worth praising a club when they strike when the iron is hot, and cash in a player at the peak of his value.

As it stands, Gallagher has only been in one England squad under his (brief) former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel. With only 1062 minutes played in all competitions for Atletico Madrid, it is clear he needs to go somewhere to play if he has a chance at cracking the World Cup squad this summer.

It's a shame to see him play for a rival side, but you can understand why a move back to England and back to London, with what you would assume would bring more game time, would be too good for the player to refuse.
