Estevao remains a doubt for the squad ahead of Chelsea's match against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup. The Brazilian player is said to have been relieved of his squad duties for personal reasons and was also reportedly given permission to return to Brazil.
Liam Rosenior confirmed that the 18-year-old is still doubtful for the Arsenal match. The Brazilian winger already missed the game against West Ham, which ended in a victory for Rosenior's team.
The Chelsea manager defended Estevao and prioritized his health, clarifying that the young forward is going through a difficult personal time and is therefore on "compassionate leave."
An important factor that could work against Chelsea is the potential absence of a key piece in manager Liam Rosenior's strategic setup, which will present a significant challenge for this London derby.
For now, the young Brazilian prospect has a total of six goals and three assists in 29 matches (all competitions) and provides creativity and dribbling ability to Chelsea.
"I will not put any pressure on him," commented the Chelsea manager. "It has to be right for him, and he has to feel he is in the right place to perform with this team."
Without Estevao, Chelsea came back from a 2-0 deficit last Saturday to achieve a 3-2 victory over West Ham, continuing the good results under Rosenior since he took charge of the team, replacing the Italian Enzo Maresca, who was dismissed due to poor results.
With Rosenior on the bench, Chelsea has won six of its seven matches played. The only defeat was, precisely, against Arsenal a week ago in the first leg of the League Cup semifinal.
Estevao is a left-footed attacker who operates primarily as a right winger. He stands out for his dribbling ability and his instinct to carry the ball and take on his direct defender in one-on-one situations, both in tight spaces and when he has more room in front of him. He is capable of carrying the ball at high speed even while taking many short touches. The young Brazilian also displays excellent timing in give-and-go plays, releasing the ball and, almost simultaneously, making a run into free space. This allows him to perform two actions in the same movement, enabling him to receive the ball again and advance.
