Former Chelsea star warns Liam Rosenior's tenure hinges on a razor's edge; a few poor results could spell dismissal.

Despite not yet proving his worth at the highest level, the 41-year-old manager has overseen a smooth transition following Enzo Maresca's dismissal, picking up 13 of a possible 15 points in the Premier League and securing an unexpected away victory at Napoli in the Champions League, which guaranteed the team a crucial top-eight finish in the league phase.

The only blemish on his record so far is a narrow defeat to Arsenal, the favorite, in the two-legged Carabao Cup semifinal, while in the last league match, Chelsea squandered a two-goal lead to draw with Leeds. However, the London side bounced back from that setback with a comfortable victory over Rosenior's former club Hull on Friday night, which earned them safe passage to the FA Cup's fifth round.

Despite that good start, former Chelsea player Emmanuel Petit believes the unpredictable way the club is run makes long-term success far from guaranteed. "Can Liam Rosenior ever win a Premier League title with Chelsea? They have been changing players every year. Therefore, consistency and stability are very important if you want to win something," he stated via Ignition Casino.

"You have to trust the players, have a vision, and stick with it. It doesn't matter if you have to go through dark tunnels; you have to keep going. You have to believe in it. You have to send a message to the dressing room: no matter what happens on the pitch, even if we get bad results, we stay true to our ideas. Liverpool did it and won trophies. City did it and won trophies. Arsenal have been doing it for years and are not far from winning. We'll see at the end of the season."

The former World Cup-winning midfielder, who also played for Arsenal, warned Rosenior that he is only "three or four" bad results away from being fired, such is the nature of the Chelsea beast.

"Look at Manchester United, look at Tottenham, look at Chelsea, at all those clubs," the Frenchman continued. "They have changed players and managers so many times. And suddenly you want them to win the title? And you ask me if Liam Rosenior is capable of winning the title with Chelsea? I'm not sure if he will still be the manager in 10 months. If he has three or four bad results in a row, I wouldn't be surprised if the board fired him."

Considering the ease with which Chelsea's owners, BlueCo, have made drastic decisions, it is difficult to argue with Petit's point. Rosenior is already the club's fifth permanent manager since their 2022 takeover, and two trophies were not enough to keep his predecessor, Maresca, in the job, despite much more going on behind the scenes.

The Englishman seems well aware that winning games is the only way to avoid pressure. He recently said the following about the scrutiny he is under: "My motivation is simply to make this club as successful as possible and to win the next game. All my energy and time are focused on my players, on the team, on how we run team meetings, and on how we train. Everything else is just noise, and I can't influence it anyway, except by winning football games." Rosenior will hope to continue his good start when the Blues host struggling Burnley on Saturday.
