Discriminatory chants at Hull City vs. Chelsea FA Cup tie triggered immediate arrests, underscoring zero tolerance for homophobic slurs.

Hull City has confirmed that arrests have been made following the discriminatory chants heard during the 4-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup on Friday night. The Championship club's public address system issued a warning to fans to cease during the first half, warning them that chants of a discriminatory nature are a criminal offense.

According to The Athletic, Hull has announced that several fans have been arrested for discriminatory chants. The chants, directed at their west London rival, were of a homophobic nature. A first warning was issued over the public address system, urging fans to stop the chants and warning them that failure to do so would lead to their arrest. In the second half, a new announcement was made, confirming that some fans had been arrested.

The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed in 2022 that certain lyrics used in the chant, relating to male sex workers, constitute a homophobic slur, meaning that anyone using them can be prosecuted.

Liverpool fan Paul Boardman was ejected from Wembley Stadium for using that chant after being heard shouting it at a nearby train station. He pleaded guilty to using threatening words and was fined £500.

Blues coach Liam Rosenior returned to the MKM Stadium, where he managed the Tigers between 2022 and 2024.

He stated, "I am delighted with the players' dedication and attitude in the first half. It was a difficult match. Full credit must go to Hull, who are flying high in the Championship. I hope they reach the Premier League this year, but thanks to our attitude and dedication to the game, the quality is always there, and that is what gave us the platform tonight.

We have had 90 very good minutes. Obviously, you want every minute of every match to be perfect. There are many things we can improve, but regarding our start together, I am delighted.

Pedro Neto has been exceptional; he works very hard and has a lot of quality. I am delighted to see him score the goals he scored today. Everyone worked very, very hard for each other.

The most satisfying thing was the mentality. They did honor to the club. It was a very solid performance in terms of the mental application needed to be successful."

Rosenior also admitted he had many family members in the crowd and added, "I had more than 20 family members here. This club means a lot not only to me, but also to my family, for many reasons. I greatly appreciate the welcome the club has given me, and it was very nice to receive a good reception from both sets of fans."
