The growth of women's football and sports as a whole, across the globe over the last few years has been remarkable. One of the clubs that has been at the forefront of this is Chelsea.
The Chelsea FC Women side are the most successful in the country and by quite some distance. They have won the Women's Super League on eight occasions and six times on the trot. The second most successful team in the competition are Arsenal with three titles to their name.
That just goes to show the kind of dominance the Chelsea FC Women side has had on English football. Of course, that kind of success has garnered attention, and from some very famous people.
Madonna was spotted at the Tottenham vs Chelsea game earlier today, which the Blues won by a 2-0 scoreline.
On the other hand, NBA Champion and two-time league MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo, announced earlier that he had partnered with Alexis Ohanian to join the ownership group of Chelsea FC Women.
A statement from the Milwaukee Bucks legend read: "Chelsea’s history speaks for itself, and I’m excited to contribute to the future by supporting continued growth and impact in women’s sport. This is about ambition, legacy, and pushing the game to new heights. Up the Chels!"
Unfortunately, some Chelsea fans might be disappointed to know that Giannis is a supporter of their London rivals, Arsenal. Or at least that was the case back in 2015. According to Express, he had said: "I’m a big football fan and an Arsenal supporter but Stamford Bridge is a legendary venue, so it was fantastic to be here and see it first-hand.
"To have my own shirt made up for me was a real honour."
Of course, Giannis has found himself in the headlines recently as it is believed that he is keen to leave the Bucks after they have failed to put together a team capable of challenging for the title.
They currently sit at 12th in the East and are a play-in team at best. Giannis was being linked with an exit before this month's trade deadline, with teams like the Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat seemingly in the mix. But a move did not materialise. It is likely to take place in the summer though.
