Once again, Chelsea's sporting project appears to be wobbling under the leadership of American owner Todd Boehly and his board. This follows the surprising announcement of Enzo Maresca's departure from the Stamford Bridge club on the first day of 2026.
Although with Enzo Maresca the project seemed to be starting to consolidate and pointed towards important challenges after winning titles like the UEFA Conference League and the Club World Cup, the Italian manager ultimately left due to differences with the Blue executive board led by American Todd Boehly.
With this, Chelsea under Todd Boehly's leadership once again suffers from the so-called 'curse' of managers, becoming the team that has changed managers the most since 2022, the year the American owner landed at the London club as a replacement for Roman Abramovich.
A total of six managers (including a brief interim stint) is what Chelsea has had in the Boehly era. This translates to a managerial change approximately every seven months on average, which speaks to how difficult it has become for Chelsea to find the ideal manager who fits the ideals of the board, led by the co-owner of the successful LA Dodgers in the United States.
Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Bruno Saltor (interim for one match), Frank Lampard, Mauricio Pochettino, and Enzo Maresca are the names that have passed through Chelsea and ended up out.
This situation has generated discontent among the Blue fanbase, which, on more than one occasion, has demonstrated against Boehly as owner, calling for his departure, a situation that now, following Enzo Maresca's exit, is repeating itself.
With Maresca's departure, the Italian manager leaves Chelsea after a period of 549 days in charge (according to Transfermarkt), which translates to 92 matches, of which the Italian obtained 55 wins, 15 draws, and 21 losses, in addition to winning the UEFA Conference League title.
In this way, alongside Mauricio Pochettino, who also managed a full season for 51 matches at Chelsea, Enzo Maresca becomes the second manager with the most games for the Blues in the Todd Boehly era.
