The climax of the winter transfer window for Chelsea has been very dramatic when it comes to the centre-back position.
Early this week, Aaron Anselmino was recalled from his loan at Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, and was in a very emotional way when he said his goodbyes to the club.
So, this begs the question: what were the immediate next steps for the defender? If Chelsea wanted him to continue at Dortmund, they would have just kept him there. Despite the lack of quality in the centre of defence, it never felt likely that he would get significant minutes at Stamford Bridge this season.
Well, now we have our answer. Despite reports suggesting the Argentine was reluctant to make the move at first, it is now being reported that Anselmino will join sister club RC Strasbourg on loan for the rest of the season.
This means Mamadou Sarr will return from his loan at the French side, and will be a part of the first team under Liam Rosenior for the rest of the season (and perhaps beyond). Though that is also not officially confirmed as of right now.
All of this comes amid heavy links to Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, though there is every possibility that deal will come in the summer, giving him six more months to develop in Ligue 1.
If, and it's still an if, Sarr does return - it will be interesting to see if he comes straight into the starting XI. Despite the three points yesterday, Chelsea again conceded two goals and had to come from behind, just like in the midweek win away to Napoli.
Some may say it's too soon for him to start. However, the 20-year-old played 120 minutes in the AFCON final, keeping a clean sheet as his Senegal side beat hosts Morocco to win the tournament.
Furthermore, he has captained Strasbourg this season, despite his young age. This shows he is ready to attack whatever is thrown at him. Ligue 1 has a reputation for its success rate with players joining the Premier League, with the physicality of the league very similar.
As for Anselmino, well, if Sarr does return, there is a free spot in central defence, as simple as it sounds. Strasbourg have made a good start under Gary O'Neil, who is not afraid to give young talent a chance to prove themselves. Let's see/
