Jules Kounde has become one of the most sought-after defenders on the market. His versatility and consistency make him a coveted piece, and Barcelona is aware there will be movement this summer as several top European clubs are inquiring about him. Liverpool has him on its priority list, but the Catalan club is especially concerned about Chelsea, a team that wanted to sign him when he played for Sevilla and has always considered him a strategic player. For now, there is calm because Kounde has always shown total commitment to Barcelona, clearly prioritizing his bet on the club, though the noise has already begun. For Barcelona, as of today, he is an untransferable player.
Liverpool has already sounded out its options to approach Kounde. The Daily Mail reports that both the manager and the sporting director of the English club believe he could be a very valuable piece for their sporting project. They want to overhaul their defense following the problems they have had this season and would be in a position to present a convincing proposal for both Barcelona and the player. Specifically, they speak of a transfer fee of €80 million.
Liverpool’s interest is not the only one coming from the Premier League. Chelsea, very active in the market since it changed ownership, has had its sights set on Kounde for several years. They lost the bidding war with Barcelona despite offering Sevilla more money in transfer fees and have tried to convince the player every year, even promising him he would play as a center back and not a fullback. The interest persists, and they will try again this summer.
Barcelona senses there will be noise around the player, but there is total calm. Kounde prioritized signing for the Catalan club when he played for Sevilla and did so, taking a pay cut. And he recently renewed his contract through 2030. He is protected by a €1 billion release clause and, most importantly, the player feels comfortable in Barcelona and at the club, so he has no intention of moving. What his entourage might think is another matter, though the player’s disposition is total commitment.
Kounde has played almost exclusively at right back for Barcelona, though with the arrival of Joao Cancelo, he may get more rest. His performance has been somewhat more uneven in recent weeks, but Hansi Flick absolutely trusts the Frenchman as a starter, and he is not one of the players Barcelona would want to put on the market. He is one of the few untouchables for Flick, and that is set in stone for the upcoming transfer window.
