There’s never a dull moment with Chelsea, whether it’s on the pitch or off it. Good or bad, there’s always something to talk about.
On the pitch, the games are coming thick and fast. Liam Rosenior has had two games in charge, but he has not yet taken charge of a Premier League game. By the time he has had his fourth game in charge, he will have managed a game in four different competitions.
Meanwhile, there is always plenty going on off the field, too. Over the last few years, Chelsea have been known for their high player turnover, though that has begun to die down over the last 12-18 months or so.
Nevertheless, it is transfer season, so there are plenty of transfer links out there - both for now and in the summer. Let's talk about the latter category for now.
According to Ben Jacobs, The Blues want to add a new midfielder in the summer, with Nottingham Forest and England midfielder Elliot Anderson one of their targets. He adds that they will face competition from Manchester United for his signing.
In his report, he also notes that Chelsea has "historical appreciation" for Adam Wharton and Kobbie Mainoo, two other players with caps for the England national team.
No doubt about it, Anderson would be an incredible signing for Chelsea. He is an all-action midfielder, capable of doing a bit of everything. He would be the perfect, most balanced partner for Moises Caicedo in the middle of the park.
Over the years, Anderson's game has changed a lot. When he played for Bristol Rovers, in League Two back in 2022, he was a direct winger who regularly contributed goals and assists.
Yet, since moving to Nottingham Forest back in the summer of 2024, he has played nearly exclusively as a deep-lying playmaker in a double pivot, both for club and country.
In the Premier League this season, Anderson is averaging over 90 touches a game and is creating 1.5 chances per game. However, he also averages 2.7 tackles per game, proving just how all-rounded he is. On or off the ball, he can do it all.
His superb performances for Forest led to a first England call-up in September, and he has fitted in seamlessly. All of his first five caps came in the starting lineup, showing just how much immediate trust Tuchel has in the midfielder.
This would be an absolutely fantastic signing.
