Chelsea greenlights Liam Delap's summer exit, a €40 million signing now set to depart after limited first-team opportunities.

Just a few months ago, Chelsea decided to sign Liam Delap, who had been one of the few positives for Ipswich Town during their stint in the Premier League, scoring in double digits. Delap was very isolated at the tip of the attack for the Tractor Boys, and yet he managed to trouble opposing defenses.

That notable performance, combined with the reputation he had gained in the Manchester City academy, led Chelsea to beat their competitors to his signature, signing him for €40 million, a price that is beginning to seem too high for a player who is not your starting striker. Right now, Joao Pedro has clearly won the position ahead of him, and he awaits his minutes from the bench.

When Cole Palmer was away from the pitch due to the pubalgia he has been dealing with for weeks, one could speculate about pairing the Brazilian and Delap in the same lineup. But once the attacking midfielder position belongs to Cole, Pedro has been permanently moved to the tip of the attack, and consequently, Delap to the Bridge’s bench.

According to “Caught Offside,” Chelsea would be open to selling him this summer, since his value hasn’t dropped much yet. Manchester United, who also pushed for his signing in August 2025, could be the place he ends up after the World Cup in North America, which he appears unlikely to attend, despite the England national team having an open spot to decide who will be Harry Kane’s understudy.

Liam Delap, 23, played 40 games last season with Ipswich Town, totaling more than 2,600 minutes on the pitch, in which he scored 12 goals and provided two assists.

In the 2025/26 season, Liam Delap has scored 3 goals for Chelsea in 30 official appearances across all competitions. In the Premier League, the English striker has played 17 games, scoring 1 goal, providing 1 assist, and accumulating 715 minutes of play.

His numbers are rounded out by 1 goal in the UEFA Champions League after 3 matches played and another in the EFL Cup in 2 appearances, also featuring in the FA Cup and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, where he scored a goal.
