In recent times, it has not been rare for players to turn out for multiple London clubs, despite the historical rivalries that exist between them. In fact, we have witnessed several Chelsea stars make direct transfers to other teams across the city.
Some names that come to mind immediately in that regard are Petr Cech, Willian, David Luiz, Kai Havertz, and Jorginho, with all of them making the switch from Chelsea to Arsenal.
Just this winter, we saw Axel Disasi make the move to West Ham United, albeit on a loan basis. And if rumours are to be believed, it took quite a bit of convincing even though the Frenchman was completely out of the first-team picture at Chelsea.
It has been much rarely for players to swap Chelsea for Tottenham Hotspur, at least directly. Of course, they do have Dominic Solanke and Conor Gallagher, although both did have other stops in between.
One player did make the switch from Chelsea to Tottenham Hotspur this winter, though. A move of that nature, especially on deadline day, would usually end up in the headlines. But the news went completely under the radar since he is an academy prospect and not a senior yet.
Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced the signing of Joel Vidal-Philbert, who joins their Academy from Chelsea.
The 17-year-old had been part of the Chelsea academy since his Under-15 days. He made his Under-18 Premier League debut last season and ended up scoring his first goal at that level against Brighton & Hove Albion in January of last year.
Vidal-Philbert is an England international at the Under-16 level. He will be joining Tottenham Hotspur's Under-18s.
This could soon become an issue for Chelsea. A large part of the club's focus under this new ownership has been on signing the top young talents from across the globe.
This has seen them bring in the likes of Estevao from Brazil, Kendry Paez from Ecuador, Aaron Anselmino from Argentina and more. Dastan Satpaev and Geovany Quenda will join the club next summer, and are two of the brightest young talents in the game today, with both having performed at the Champions League level already.
That has made it much tougher for Cobham's current crop of players to get a look-in at Chelsea though. Naturally, a lot of them could be considering their future options and do not be surprised if plenty of others choose to leave over the coming years.
