Ruben van Bommel To Start For Netherlands Against Greece?

With Cody Gakpo ruled out through injury, Ruben van Bommel could be in line for his first start for the Netherlands. Gakpo was forced off during Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Serbia and will miss the upcoming Nations League matches against Greece and Serbia. The KNVB has confirmed that no replacement will be called up, with Xavi still able to call upon former PSV winger Noa Lang and Van Bommel. The PSV attacker has already made an impact during his first two international appearances. He came off the bench against Germany and Serbia, producing a particularly memorable moment against Germany with a superb assist for Cody Gakpo’s late equaliser in the 1-1 draw. Van Bommel also came close to scoring his first Netherlands goal against Serbia. Guus Til found him with a pass into space, but his effort was saved when Oranje were chasing a third goal. With Gakpo now unavailable, Van Bommel’s opportunity could become more significant. The 21-year-old has impressed in limited minutes and could now be handed his first international start when the Netherlands travel to Greece on Thursday. The Netherlands are also dealing with several other attacking absences. PSV winger Ivan Perisic was widely praised in the Croatian media after playing a decisive role in Croatia’s 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic in the Nations League. The PSV player provided the assist for Marco Pasalic’s winning goal while also contributing defensively. Official international: Mauro Junior makes Brazil debut

PSV have officially added another Brazilian international to their history, with Mauro Junior making his senior debut for the Seleção against Australia on Friday. The 27-year-old came off the bench in the 73rd minute, replacing Douglas Santos, as Brazil drew 1-1 with Australia at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville. Brazil had fallen behind in the 68th minute when Nestory Irankunda converted from a free kick. Mauro was introduced shortly afterwards as Carlo Ancelotti looked to change the game. The Brazilians eventually avoided defeat in stoppage time when Rayan scored the equaliser. Ancelotti had already confirmed a day before the match that Mauro would not start, with the Brazil head coach announcing his lineup in advance. The PSV captain therefore began his international career from the bench before earning his first appearance. Mauro could add to his tally during the current international break. Brazil will face Australia again next Tuesday before meeting India in a friendly next Saturday. His debut also places Mauro among a select group of PSV players to have represented Brazil, following former Eindhoven stars such as Heurelho Gomes, Ronaldo and Romário. PSV Talent In The Spotlight At Curaçao As Dick Advocaat Makes Contact

PSV talent Shuryjano Cornecion has emerged as a player on Curaçao's radar after head coach Dick Advocaat made contact with the Jong PSV midfielder. Advocaat, who previously coached PSV, confirmed in an interview with NOS that he has spoken with Cornecion about potentially representing Curaçao. The 21-year-old is not the only young player being monitored. Advocaat has also been in contact with AZ players Ro-Zangelo Daal and Elijah Dijkstra, as well as Arsenal youngster Demiane Agustien. None of the four have yet represented Curaçao. Advocaat understands why players at that stage of their careers may prefer to wait before making an international decision. “We see that players of 21 or 22 years old now choose the Netherlands national team, or they wait until they come into view there. I can also understand that some of the boys still want to wait a little longer.” The presence of Advocaat has also influenced another international decision. Sontje Hansen has opted against continuing with Curaçao following Advocaat's appointment. The coach was direct when discussing the situation. “Then you have to leave, because that's how it works in football. He probably thought he should have played more; then he should have just done his best.
