Fernandes' "world-class" praise ignites transfer buzz. Can Manchester United lure the in-demand midfielder from Chelsea, potentially replacing their captain?
Ties between Manchester United and Cole Palmer have never faded, especially as it is known that Palmer has been a Manchester United fan since childhood. Recently, sources have suggested that the attacking midfielder is not entirely happy at Chelsea, fueling speculation about a possible return to the north of England.
Previously, Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior reassured the public, stating that Cole Palmer remained in the team's plans and would continue playing at Stamford Bridge. However, these statements were not enough to quell the speculation, especially after the latest shout-out by the Manchester United captain.
After scoring a hat-trick in Chelsea's 3-1 win over Wolves on 7 February in the Premier League's 25th matchday, Cole Palmer posted a message on Instagram with the caption "Just enjoy it."
Bruno Fernandes quickly appeared in the comments section, leaving brief praise: "A world-class player." This comment immediately caught attention, as Fernandes and Palmer are direct rivals in the race for a Champions League spot this season.
Former Manchester United center-back Rio Ferdinand also joined the discussion with the comment "Classy," emphasizing the Chelsea midfielder's extremely high level of play.
In contrast, Fernandes' current contract runs until 2027, placing INEOS in a position where it must consider renewing it or planning a long-term replacement. In that context, Cole Palmer is seen as one of the potential successors to the creative role if Manchester United parts ways with Fernandes.
Palmer continues to solidify himself as the centerpiece of Chelsea's attack in the 2025/26 campaign. As of 8 February, the England international has recorded 11 goals in all competitions after playing 24 matches.
In the Premier League, Palmer has scored seven goals in 14 appearances, maintaining notable effectiveness from the penalty spot, where he has converted four of his goals. Although his role as an assistant has been more discreet in the league this year, with zero assists recorded, his impact in playmaking remains high, averaging a 76.7 percent pass accuracy rate.
