Sheringham believes Ronaldo's fitness could see him playing until 44, potentially joining Messi's Inter Miami after his Saudi contract ends.

Former Manchester United star Teddy Sheringham sees no reason why his fellow Red Devils legend, Cristiano Ronaldo, cannot join Lionel Messi in MLS at some point. The 1999 Treble winner has said CR7 could chase the American dream, to what extent the Portuguese GOAT will play beyond 42, and if his goal numbers will ever be repeated.

There are no signs of Ronaldo slowing down in the short term, with the forward quickly approaching his 41st birthday. He has signed a contract with Saudi Pro League team Al-Nassr, which is set to run until 2027.

More major honors are being pursued in the Middle East, along with a third consecutive Golden Boot, and no hint has been offered that he will retire in the near future. Ronaldo is expected to participate for a sixth time in the World Cup with Portugal this summer, as he enters that tournament as his country's captain.

He has 226 appearances and 143 international goals to his name, while record books are being rewritten, and some say he could continue until the 2030 World Cup, as matches for that event will be held in his homeland.

Ex-Manchester United Star Sees Ronaldo Playing Into Mid-40s, Join Messi In MLS Later

That may be a little ambitious, but Sheringham, who played in the Premier League until he was 40, can see Ronaldo extending his career beyond the end of another lucrative extension in Riyadh.

The great former United player said this when asked if he sees CR7 continuing until his mid-40s: "I see it. It's all about keeping fit and healthy, staying away from injuries. He has the right physique; he's like a machine that looks after itself on the soccer field. He's playing in a league where it won't be as hard for him week in, week out. I can see him playing for a few more years. I think he could get to 44."

As a shareholder in Al-Nassr, Ronaldo could agree to stay in Saudi Arabia. However, it could be that he is tempted to take on a new challenge in 2027. A return to his roots at Sporting has been speculated about for some time.

Fans around the world would also like to see two eternal rivals on the same team before their respective careers come to an end. When asked if Ronaldo will be seen in Europe again, or if he could join Messi at Inter Miami, Sheringham said: "I don't think so (return to Europe). I think he would in America, for sure. He could wait until he's 44/45 before going."
