Discover Manchester United's innovative strategy that lured Sesko, outpacing Newcastle's pursuit for the star striker.

Sesko led Manchester United to a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday with his seventh goal in eight games across all competitions, bringing his total to nine strikes since arriving from RB Leipzig. The match against Palace was his first start under United manager Michael Carrick, having scored from the bench in three of his previous four appearances.

The Slovenian had a slow start to his Old Trafford career, scoring only two goals in 10 Premier League starts under Rúben Amorim. He is now living up to his price tag, and United's recruitment team is receiving praise for their decision to sign him and loan Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli.

The Sun has revealed how United attracted Sesko to Old Trafford during the summer and beat Newcastle to secure his signing. Recruitment chief Christopher Vivell, who used to work for Leipzig, and head of transfer negotiations Matt Hargreaves played a key role in the operation.

They reached out to Sesko's camp after United lost out to Chelsea in the race to sign Liam Delap, leaving them with the option to choose between the Slovenian and Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins.

According to The Sun's report, part of Hargreaves and Vivell's pitch to Sesko's camp included the creation of an AI-generated video showing fans with his shirt and presenting him with a Red Devils jersey. His agent, Elvis Basanovic, brought the shirt to Sesko while he was doing preseason training with Leipzig, and the player put it on, looked at the United crest, and told his representative: "Make it happen."

According to The Sun, Sesko's performance has improved thanks to him settling into life in England and moving into a house in Cheshire with a private gym, sauna, and football pitch.

His new environment has helped him improve his fitness compared to his first weeks at the club, when he was staying at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester city center. His home is located near Manchester Airport, but he has installed double-glazed windows to reduce noise levels and sleep better.

Only Brentford striker Igor Thiago has scored more Premier League goals in 2026 than Sesko. The Slovenian has already doubled the number of goals Hojlund scored last season, and there are still 10 games remaining.

The striker's recent goals — which gave the team victory against Fulham, Everton, and Palace, and the draw against West Ham — have been worth seven points to United, boosting their rise to third place in the Premier League in their bid to return to the Champions League.

"Benjamin is in a good moment and has had a big impact in recent weeks," Carrick said. "He is learning what it feels like to play here, and scoring the winning goal today is fantastic. (Starting him) is not a risky gamble. It wasn't such a big decision. We are here to help, and I'm sure that will continue. He is willing to do whatever it takes."
