Martinez's return fuels United's surge. His defensive mastery and passing prowess have restored crucial balance, igniting the team's winning streak.
Manchester United's strong form is closely linked to the impact of Michael Carrick on the bench, but also to a figure who has restored balance and authority on the pitch. Lisandro Martinez has established himself as an essential piece both in playing out from the back and in defensive solidity, and the team's good results clearly coincide with his presence on the field.
The Red Devils' dynamic has changed notably when the Argentine has managed to string together minutes without injury interruptions. Martinez reappeared as a starter after his serious anterior cruciate ligament injury in a match against Newcastle, and, since then, the team has lost only one of the nine games played, specifically the stumble against Brighton in the FA Cup. An immediate influence, bringing order, character, and continuity to the defensive structure.
The match against Tottenham illustrated his importance precisely. Throughout the 90 minutes, he completed 103 of the 109 passes he attempted, 21 of them directed to the final third of the pitch. But his contribution is not limited to the ball: he made four clearances, four successful tackles, and two interceptions that helped keep a clean sheet, the third since his return to the starting lineup, whereas without him they had only managed one.
His time at Old Trafford, however, has been marked by physical inconsistency. Since his arrival, he has suffered eight injuries, the latest an anterior cruciate ligament rupture that kept him out for eight months of competition. That record left him on the ropes on several occasions, with doubts about his fitness and his long-term continuity.
So far this 2025/26 season, especially after consolidating his return to competitive rhythm at the end of last year. Under the current technical management, the Argentine defender has played a total of 13 Premier League matches, accumulating approximately 815 minutes on the pitch.
On the defensive side, Martinez has demonstrated notable effectiveness by winning 66.7 percent of his individual duels, directly contributing to keeping a clean sheet in 2 key matches. One statistic that stands out in his current performance is his greater tactical discipline, as, despite his characteristic aggression, he has yet to receive any yellow or red cards in the Premier League.
