Manchester United are reportedly finalizing terms with a goal-scoring AFCON star. Could this striker be their next big signing?

Manchester United have lost three players to the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, hosted by Morocco, as Bryan Mbuemo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui are all starring for their respective national sides in the prestigious tournament.

United would definitely be keeping close tabs on their stars, as injuries are quite frequent during international fixtures, leaving players little time to recover, especially Premier League players who have a hectic schedule all year round.

But on a brighter side, the Reds' representatives in the AFCON have played their roles brilliantly as they all look to progress into the knockout stages of the competition. Diallo scored two goals in two matches for the Ivory Coast in the group stages, including one against Cameroon's Mbuebo, and is the joint-second-highest goal scorer of the tournament thus far

Manchester United Close in on Emerging AFCON Hero

Mali centre-forward Lassine Sinayoko, who has scored two goals, is a transfer target for the Reds in 2026. According to Africa Foot (via Sportskeeda), Man United have begun talks with the 26-year-old and hope to reach a pre-agreement in January for a free transfer at season's end.

Sinayoko is currently under contract with French Ligue 1 side Auxerre FC but is set to become a free agent in the summer of 2026, as no new agreement has been reached between the player and the club. He looks forward to making a move next year.

United have emerged as clear favourites for Sinayoko's signature as Newcastle's interest in the forward has reportedly faded away as the Magpies signed Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart.

The Mali international scored six goals in 16 appearances for Auxerre this season, surpassing his tally of five goals in 34 games in Ligue 1 last season, further strengthening United's interest in the forward.

Manchester United spent over £70 million on the signing of Benjamin Sesko during the past summer, but the Slovenian striker has merely justified his hefty price tag as he has scored only two goals and provided an assist for the Red Devils as we near the halfway mark of the season.

Ruben Amorin would love to add an inform player like Sinayoko to his side next season, which would be a major plus point for the Reds if they qualify for the Champions League. The club management would love to strengthen the squad and create competition for the number nine spot next year.
