Although we are only two games into his second interim spell in charge of Manchester United, Michael Carrick has already equalled his predecessor, Ruben Amorim, for back-to-back games won, after United defeated Arsenal 3-2 on Sunday.
Indeed, in 14 months in charge, Amorim only won consecutive games once, and that was as recently as last October. What makes this even more impressive from Carrick is that he did it against Manchester City and Arsenal.
You couldn't get a more difficult opening first two games in charge, yet United have come away with two wins, and two outstanding performances.
So, let's take a look at the individuals who stood out the most for their performances in North London on Sunday afternoon.
At the back, Harry Maguire was absolutely colossal. We know the way Arsenal play - they get balls into the box - through long throws, set pieces, or crosses from open play. There was plenty of that for United to defend.
Throughout the game, Maguire was there to head the ball away and deal with this constant aerial pressure. The defender made nine clearances and won all five of his duels contested. Thomas Tuchel, are you watching?
Once again, Patrick Dorgu showed what some coaching can do. Weirdly, the one time Amorim played the Danish international as a winger - he scored. Then, he reverted straight back to his 343 formation and was soon dismissed.
The left hand side of Luke Shaw and Dorgu has been excellent in the last two games, both defensively and going forward. The strike from the latter for his goal was just ridiculous, and shows a man full of confidence to even try it. Let's hope the injury is not too bad. He would be taking the Gareth Bale comparisons too literally if it was.
During the week, it was confirmed he would be leaving United in the summer. Uncle Casemiro put in one more top-class performance. His presence in the middle of the pitch stunted any central build-up from the hosts, forcing them wide to sling crosses in.
Again, the performance from Bryan Mbeumo leading the line was very good. Minimal touches, maximum efficiency. He had gone close even before he scored. The composure to round David Raya for his goal was top class.
Finally, for individual performances, you have to mention Matheus Cunha—an incredible, ruthless goal. The power and backlift were just sublime. The ball did not bounce once; it went straight into the bottom corner. Incredible.
That was not all, however. His game management after the goal was fantastic - carrying the ball up the pitch and winning fouls to completely take any sting out of the game.
No player played badly, but the aforementioned stars were the particular stand outs. Another great collective performance. Not every game will be like these two - there will be games against low blocks where the onus will be on United to create chances in settled possession and take the game to the opposition.
Against those teams, will Mbeumo up front be the best option, or will Carrick go for Benjamin Sesko? If he does, how does he get the Cameroonian and Amad Diallo in the same XI? Where does Cunha come into the side, with Bruno Fernandes in the 10 and Dorgu off the left (if he's fit)?
Plenty of interesting questions to look at moving forward, but from what we can judge so far, no notes for the job Carrick has done. This is the most feel good factor the fanbase and club have had since the 2024 FA Cup final. Long may it continue.
